Help Build the Dorothy Page Health Center

Because camper registration fees usually account for less than half of the overall budget, Camp Hunt depends on the generous contributions of supporters here in NYS and around the country.  Each Spring, we make a special appeal for the projects scheduled for that year.  We encourage the churches in the State that benefit from Camp Hunt’s ministry, to take up a special collection for this effort.

Just to refresh your memory, this is what has been accomplished at Camp Hunt over the past three years as a result of your generosity.  In 2005, the special collection was for a new commercial mower, and restrooms and septic for Victory Center, the new recreation building.  We received $19,270 in donations, while actual expenses were $22,326.

One year later, 2006, we requested $15,000 to help with $20,000 of projected expenses on the drilling of a new well, and the hydrofracturing of the old well.  We received $14,427 in total donations, and actual expenses were $15,509.

Last year, 2007, we embraced a huge undertaking, as we sought to completely renovate O.G. Hall, our dining facility.  The renovation included a new roof, siding, windows and doors, bathrooms, foundation work, first level floors, and a handicapped ramp.  Over $60,000 was raised and spent on that project!

Our appeal this year is for the construction of the Dorothy Page Health Center (DPHC).  For many years, Camp Hunt has been content with a "Nurse's Station" carved out of Diehl Lodge.  Although this arrangement has sufficed most of the time, it has often proved inadequate.  But we now have the opportunity to create a truly superb facility that will meet our needs for many years to come.

The DPHC will be a stand-alone building, handicapped-accessible, located between O-G Hall and Victory Center.  Included will be a waiting area, an examination room, two isolation rooms (each with a private toilet, sink, and shower), and a bedroom and bath for the nurse.  Surrounding the building's core will be a covered porch that will provide a place for campers to gather out of the weather while cabin-mates receive their evening medications - and a place for staff to gather throughout the day and evening for fellowship and conversation!

Cost of the building (finished and furnished) is roughly estimated at $65,000 to $70,000.  The majority of the funds needed for construction will come from a generous gift given in memory of Dorothy Page, a long-time, beloved Camp Hunt nurse and board member, as well as Endowment Fund proceeds and our planned 2008 Spring Fund contribution.

The goal for our special collections in participating congregations here in N.Y.S. is $15,000.  If we are blessed and our fundraising efforts exceed the actual costs for the DPHC, then the additional monies will be applied to Camp Hunt’s other operational and maintenance expenses, or future construction projects.
