Girl’s Cabins Re-Roofing & Rearrange a Few of the Cabins

This camping season is Camp Hunt’s 69th!  Praise the Lord!  Over the years, the lives of thousands of children and adults have been blessed through the ministry of Camp Hunt.

Camp Hunt is able to minister the way it does because of generous support from members of churches of Christ.  The registration fee for a week at camp does not come close to covering the operational expenses of camp, and it certainly does not cover the cost of construction projects.  Therefore, each Spring we make a special fundraising appeal to cover the projects and operational expenses designated by Camp Hunt’s Board of Directors for that year.  We ask the Christians who believe in and benefit from Camp Hunt’s ministry to make a contribution.

Our Spring Collections and fundraising efforts last year allowed us to do a number of small facility projects, including a major rebuilding of the OG kitchen floor in the sink area, and we enhanced the recreational program by adding an archery program. We are happy to report that the archery program was a resounding success.

In addition to the regular maintenance and operation of camp, we plan to use the Spring collection to roof several of the girl’s cabins, to rearrange a few of the cabins according to health department requirements, and make a larger cabin out of two of them. We also plan to purchase another used golf cart with a dump box designed for maintenance. The goal for the Spring Collection this year is $16,000. As always, any monies given that exceed the project needs can be used for other operational expenses.

As many of you know, On September 24, 2015, Camp Hunt received a letter from the IRS informing us that as of Sept. 14, 2015 our tax-exempt status had been automatically revoked. Our tax-exempt status was automatically revoked because of our failure to file the 990 for three consecutive years. Since the IRS began the automatic revocation process, 450,000 tax-exempt organizations like ours have ended up in the situation we are in. Although that fact brings little comfort, it does offer assurance that many of those organizations have regained their tax-exempt status. Since that moment last Fall, our treasurer and an accounting firm have been working to bring those 990s up to date so that we can reapply for tax-exempt status. We fully hope and trust that our status will be resolved and the reinstatement will be retroactive back to the day it was lost. But unfortunately, that means that at the present time we are not tax-exempt and contributions are not deductible. We cannot guarantee that everything will be resolved by the time you file your 2016 taxes, but that is our goal. We hope that you are able to give to Camp Hunt regardless of whether it is a deductible contribution or not.

We trust that God is able to supply what is needed through His people. Please prayerfully consider this need and contribute as you are able.  When writing checks for this Spring Collection, please make them out to Camp Hunt, Inc. and make note in the memo area that it is for the “Spring Collection.”

With hope,
David Owens, President
