Storm Damage at Camp Hunt - No One Was Injured

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I wanted to update you on the storm damage situation at camp.

Praise God that no one was injured and that all the buildings were spared major damage. The big tree that came down at the old mess hall almost hit a woman going to Grindley. A grandmother, daughter and her four children all hid under the beds in the Pine cabin. You will notice that Pine has been covered by a tree.

When I arrived at camp, the Madison County Emergency Management agency was on site and seeing how to help, as was the Hubbardsville Fire Department. The Fire Department cleared out some of the girl's area and emptied all the cabins of the personal items of those who had been staying in the cabins. The electric company arrived to disconnect the line that was down behind Diehl. The emergency management agency sent for generators to run the freezers in the kitchen. They were arriving as I was leaving for home around 9 PM.

As you can see in the pictures below, the girl's area is the most affected area with lots of trees down and many resting on the cabins. Several other trees had their tops taken off. One at Diehl, a few around OG Hall and one between the rec pad and the boys area. The old crab apple tree toppled over and so did the big tree at the old mess hall. Ken's truck was not damaged as much as it could have been. The driver front fender is dented and the windshield has a crack.

While I was still on my way home, I received a call that the power had been restored to camp. So the only parts of camp that don't have electricity presently are Diehl, the water system pump house, the girl's area, and the pool. The electricians with their group are working on rigging up the ability for a generator to run the pump for the water system. Hopefully, the electric company will be able to come back and repair the powerline behind Diehl before too long.

With the situation improved from where it was this afternoon, the camp renters may decide to stay and finish their camp session.

God is so good!

David
